I am a mathematician in the gaming industry.

Industry

I use advanced statistics, machine learning techniques, and game expertise to develop models for esports. While working at EBET, I created industry leading models for League of Legends and Dota 2 that predict match winners along with a wide variety of betting markets.

Academic Research

My academic research was in functional analysis. The primary focus of my work was on polynomials and multilinear maps on ordered spaces. The main objects that I considered were vector lattices, which have their origins in Frigyes Riesz’s paper Sur la décomposition des opérations fonctionelles linéaires.

My work largely involved extending well known results for linear maps on vector lattices to polynomials on vector lattices. Additional topics that I consider include tensor products, orthogonal additivity, and orthosymmetry. See my papers [1] and [2] for further insights.

Teaching

I have had the opportunity to teach a wide variety of classes, including precalculus, single and multivariable calculus, calculus based statistics, differential equations, linear algebra, and a graduate student reading course on functional analysis. The format of these courses varied from small in-person seminars to large online classes.

My approach to teaching prioritizes intuition, understanding, and discovery over algorithms and memorization. I strive to never leave my students with the impression that mathematics is either a dry set of if-then statements or an arbitrary list of rules. Indeed, I emphasize that there are beautiful stories, both mathematical and historical, that underlie every concept.

Personal

I was my born in Kathmandu, Nepal, where my mother worked as a freelance journalist and as a Newsweek correspondent. After the Nepalese royal family massacre of 2001, we relocated to the United States where we found a new home in the Mississippi Delta. Since then, I attended Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, where I graduated suma cum laude with a B.S. in Mathematics and B.A. in French in 2010.

Immediately after finishing my undergraduate studies, I began graduate school at the University of Mississippi. After I completed the requirements for an MS in Mathematics in 2012, I started my doctoral studies under the supervision of professor Gerard Buskes.

I obtained my PhD in 2017 and continued to reside at the University of Mississippi as a visiting professor until the summer 2021. After departing the University of Mississippi, I accepted a position as a quantitative analyst at EBET.

In my free time, I love being outdoors, traveling, and gaming. I also enjoy watching esports, Formula 1, and mixed martial arts.
